Chapter 26 - Camera Three’s New Purpose

Students became fascinated by Camera Three.

At first it was known as:

“The camera that destroyed Tyler.”

Martha corrected anyone she heard.

“No.”

“What?”

“The camera didn’t destroy anybody.”

“It exposed him.”

“It recorded him.”

That distinction mattered.

Technology was evidence.

People still made choices.

The school eventually replaced several old cameras.

But new policy prohibited live access by individual board members.

Every retrieval created an audit trail.

If administrators were subjects of a complaint, independent district personnel handled footage.

Martha asked Evan Park:

“Can anyone delete it?”

“Not locally.”

“Good.”

Then:

“Can anyone watch kids all day for no reason?”

“No.”

“Also good.”

Safety and privacy.

Both.

Evan laughed.

“You should work in IT governance.”

“I’d rather clean fryers.”
