For weeks Leo avoided the cafeteria corner near the milk cooler.
Martha noticed after returning to work.

One Tuesday he entered her line.
“Sloppy joe?”
She asked.
He made a face.
“Never again.”
Martha laughed.
“Fair.”
He chose pizza.
Then, instead of walking around the far side of the room, Leo passed directly beside the milk cooler.
Paused.
Looked at it.
Then kept walking.
Martha pretended not to notice.
Some victories deserved privacy.
At his table, Leo sat with three friends.
One waved at Martha.
She waved back.
