Chapter 26 - The Foundation Opens Its Books

Evelyn made the Cole Foundation publish enhanced financial transparency reports.
Malcolm teased her.
“You’re becoming radical.”
“I spent a year watching people hide motives behind paperwork.”
The foundation disclosed executive compensation.
Related-party transactions.
Donor restrictions.
Conflict policies.
Board attendance.
When a longtime donor complained,
“Why make everything public?”
Evelyn answered,
“Because secrecy is expensive.”
The foundation also created an elder financial-protection grant program supporting legal aid and financial education for older adults facing exploitation.
Evelyn refused to name it after herself.
Nia sent a message:
Name it the Chandelier Fund.
Evelyn replied:
Blocked.
The program launched quietly.
That mattered more.
