Chapter 20 - The New Chandelier Rule

Evelyn created a rule for Cole House events.

“No humiliation under the chandelier.”

Nia laughed when she heard it.

“That’s extremely specific.”

“History.”

“What if humiliation happens in the ballroom?”

“Also discouraged.”

The foundation prepared its next annual gala.

Evelyn debated whether to hold it at the mansion.

Malcolm assumed no.

She chose yes.

“This house is not evidence,” she said.

He understood.

Nia’s company received the event contract through a competitive process.

She was now an assistant event supervisor.

When the bid was awarded, she called Evelyn.

“Did you interfere?”

“No.”

“Promise?”

“Yes.”

Nia checked with procurement anyway.

Evelyn pretended to be insulted.

Secretly, she was proud.

Trust did not mean refusing verification.

That was another family lesson.

Before the gala, Nia walked the foyer.

Same chandelier.

Same staircase.

Same marble.

Different staff protocols.

No guest could privately control event footage.

Raw files belonged to the foundation under contract.

No one person could order edits without documentation.

A small governance change born from a terrible night.

The major external conflicts were nearly resolved.

Celeste’s civil case.

Harrison’s discipline.

Damon’s departure.

Marlowe integration.

The next chapters would be about what remained after victory.
