Chapter 17 - The Cole Meridian Vote

Three years later, Ethan faced another major board vote.

This time not family marriage.

A merger with international infrastructure company.

Good terms.

He wanted.

Independent directors skeptical.

Patricia had no control.

Noah none.

Emma obviously child.

Ethan had to persuade.

He presented.

Board rejected 5–4.

He was furious.

Went home.

Naomi asked:

“What happened?”

“They’re idiots.”

“Maybe.”

He glared.

Then laughed.

She said:

“Can you override?”

“Not without shareholder process.”

“Will you?”

He thought.

“No.”

Six months later market shifted.

Rejected merger would have overexposed company.

Board right.

Ethan sent chair Angela Brooks note:

You were right. I was wrong.

She replied:

Frame it.

He laughed.

Governance worked.

Then Ethan told Patricia.

She said:

“Your father would have fired them.”

“That’s why structure changed.”

“Yes.”

She smiled sadly.

Maybe she finally accepted.

Then Cole Meridian created descendant internship program? Could accidentally recreate dynasty. Instead they removed automatic family internships.

Noah supported.

Anyone including descendants apply through open process.

Good.

Then Emma, now three, visited office and drew on whiteboard.

Ethan called it strategic plan.

Naomi rolled eyes.

No “future CEO.”

Patricia almost said.

Stopped.

May you like

Growth.
