Chapter 25 - The Folder in Marcus’s Hand

Marcus prepared to step down as chair.
Last week.
He carried same leather folder through lobby.
New receptionist scanned his badge.
“Good morning, Mr. Reed.”
“Morning.”
A maintenance worker approached beside him.
Work boots.
Paint on sleeve.
Receptionist smiled.
“Badge, please.”
The worker scanned.
Green.
“Thank you. Elevators left.”
Same tone.
Same process.
Marcus kept walking.
No one recognized symbolic beauty.
