Chapter 21 - Leadership Review Reopened

The original leather folder remained in Marcus’s desk.
Leadership Review had never technically closed.
He reopened it.
Names:
Adrian — gone.
Richard — returned, no promotion yet.
Celeste — resigned.
Pike — resigned.
Elena — not originally candidate, now CEO of merged operating company.
Marcus wrote final observations.
Not scores.
No winners.
He hated ranking people after what he learned.
Instead:
Adrian: strong operator; concealed conflicts; lost authority through misconduct.
Richard: capable; compromised policy for advancement; demonstrated accountability after consequence.
Celeste: designed insufficient complaint governance; accepted structural responsibility.
Then his own name.
He hesitated.
Marcus: built culture that overvalued discretion and founder recognition; withdrew without ensuring systems matched scale; later participated in reforms and surrendered exceptional access.
He closed folder.
