Chapter 5 - Seat 18FFlight 229 passengers began posting videos.

The story spread.
FORMER F-22 PILOT SAVES AIRLINER
Sarah hated every version.
One showed her entering cockpit.
Another captured captain announcing after landing:
“We had help from a very experienced passenger.”
News found Night Fury within hours.
Old squadron photos resurfaced.
Nathan’s accident resurfaced too.
Some headlines implied Sarah had been responsible.
Again.
Twelve years of silence had not protected her.
It had merely left vacuum.
Her cargo employer, Blue Mesa Air Freight, placed her on paid leave while regulators reviewed her role.
Not punishment.
Still felt like losing cockpit again.
Her boss, Karen Lee, called.
“You okay?”
“No.”
“Good answer.”
Sarah laughed weakly.
“We have reporters at hangar.”
“Sorry.”
“Don't apologize. They’ll get bored.”
Then Karen said:
“Sarah, there’s something you should know.”
“What?”
“Three months ago you filed a maintenance discrepancy on one of our 767s.”
Sarah remembered.
Intermittent vibration.
Not severe.
Aircraft removed from service, inspected, returned after contractor replaced control component.
“Who was contractor?” Sarah asked.
Karen paused.
“Aegis Fleet Services.”
Sarah closed eyes.
Another aircraft.
Not accident.
But same company.
Karen continued:
“I pulled work order. Replaced part was supplied through AeroMotion.”
Sarah's chest tightened.
“Preserve everything.”
“Already done.”
Sarah smiled despite fear.
Good systems.
One person notices.
May you like
Another preserves.
Maybe this time truth would not take twelve years.
