Chapter 8 - Ethan’s SignatureThen my husband discovered he had signed something too.

Three months earlier Richard invited us to dinner.
At end he handed Ethan a “family tax acknowledgment.”
Ethan skimmed.
Signed.
He was a CPA.
He knew better.
That shame nearly crushed him.
Document acknowledged that Richard and Marianne’s trustee decisions were made “with informed beneficiary household consent.”
Not binding enough to legalize fraud.
But useful defensively.
Ethan told me immediately.
“I signed.”
I was angry.
“At least you read contracts for a living.”
“I know.”
“Why?”
“Because your dad said Naomi already reviewed.”
“He lied.”
“I still should have checked.”
No excuses.
That mattered.
Marriage trust survived because Ethan confessed before discovery.
He contacted investigators.
Surrendered email.
Richard had written:
Standard tax housekeeping. No need bother Claire while pregnant.
There.
Deliberate exclusion.
Ethan became witness.
Not hero.
May you like
Not villain.
A person who made careless choice and corrected.
